Facing Heaven – Welcome to the Sichuan Cuisine is a cookbook written by renowned Swedish chef Erik Videgård. The target audience is everyone with a strong interest in food. With a very limited budget, we set out to create a beautiful object that belongs in any designed environment.
A book that presents the essence of Sichuan cuisine with graphic signals, rather than creating just another conventional cookbook heavily reliant on food photography on the cover. Our ambition was to represent Videgård’s culinary exploration with a graphic journey, rather than create just another conventional cookbook heavily reliant on food photography.
A graphic forest of chopsticks is the Leitmotif. In tandem with the recipes, it takes diverse shapes throughout the book; on the cover a bamboo forest is piercing through the yellow linen. You are facing heaven beyond the chopstick-trees.
